Acrux’s Promising Spray (ASX:ACR)
Australian company, Acrux has come out with a positive result from a Phase III trial after evaluating the safety and efficacy of their new testosterone spray, Axiron. The promising results of the late-stage trials of Axiron has cleared the way and now Acrux can look forward to putting an application to the Food and Drug Administration of the United States of America later this year. This new testosterone spray will be used for the treatment of testosterone deficiency also known as hypogonadism across 26 sites in six countries.
Acrux’s Axiron is a unique pharmaceutical product which one can apply underarm using a no touch applicator and it can be used the same way like we normally use the antiperspirant spray. Acrux has said that currently the existing patents will protect Axiron to 2017, but they will go for a new patent which will help them protect Axiron till 2026. Owing to this successful trial, the shares of Acrux are likely to soar high once again as investors and analysts have high hopes and expectations with the Axiron program even in the future.
Acrux said that the target audience for Axiron will be men over the age of 45 who suffer from low testosterone levels, which can lead to problems like low sex drive and memory loss. Currently, the market is flooded with many testosterone gels but they are messy and the users are not happy with it, which is why Acrux has come up with a spray version that is easy and effective as well.
Earlier this month, Acrux had announced that FDA has given a green signal to Acrux to file a new drug application (NDA) in the United States of America, which Acrux might do by the end of this year. If approved by the FDA, Acrux’s Axiron will be out in the market by early 2011.
