Arena Pharmaceuticals New Data (NASDAQ:ARNA)

Arena Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARNA) announced new findings today, adding to the previously announced top line BLOSSOM data that showed highly significant weight loss with lorcaserin over one year of treatment in about four thousand patients. Though, Arena Pharmaceuticals made this new announcement early in the morning, there was not much movement in price. Investors and analysts are playing a waiting game that Arena Pharmaceuticals might come up with something more than what they already have now on their list.

Couple of days ago Arena Pharmaceuticals announced that data from their pivotal Behavioral Modification and Lorcaserin for Overweight and Obesity Management Phase 3 trial demonstrated lorcaserin increased excess weight loss significantly and improved markers of cardiovascular risk and glycemic parameters. Arena Pharmaceuticals is one of the leading clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing oral drugs for the everything from the central nervous system, cardiovascular, inflammatory, and metabolic diseases. According to these new findings, Intent to Treat Last Observation Carried Forward analysis, lorcaserin patients achieved highly significant improvements in the Body Mass Index or BMI, waist circumference, and hip circumference. The new drug also did not increase depression or suicidal ideation compared to the placebo. Adverse events related to depression and their rates for patients who took lorcaserin twice a day also went down drastically. Arena Pharmaceuticals now has a pipeline of compounds that target G protein coupled receptors and other compounds that are being evaluated independently for the treatment of obesity.
