On Monday, May 3, 2010, work will begin to improve the Golf Links Road and Wilmot Road intersection. For the first two weeks of the project, crews will be working in the drainage area, outside of the travel lanes, at the southwest quadrant of the intersection. Beginning on Monday, May 17, 2010, crews will begin making roadway improvements that will impact travel at the intersection. Work hours for the project will be 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., with some occasional night work to minimize the impact on the traveling public. Crews will be working Monday through Thursday. The project is scheduled to be complete in late September 2010 or early October 2010.

Crews from Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will be constructing a dedicated right turn lane on eastbound Golf Links Road and build a bus pull through at the southwest corner of the intersection.

The existing traffic signals at the southwest corner of the intersection will be relocated and the entire intersection will be re-wired. The project also calls for modifications to the existing drainage culvert and multi-use path at the southwest corner of the intersection. The existing intersection pavement will be removed (milled) and replaced with new asphalt, about 800 feet to 1,200 feet in each direction of the intersection.

The $1 million project is being funded with voter-approved Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) funds. While funded through the RTA, the project is being managed by the TDOT. The voter-approved, $2.1 billion RTA plan will be implemented through 2026. Details about the full plan are available at http://www.RTAmobility.com. The RTA has a nine-member board with representatives from local, state and tribal governments.
